Couple Focused on Their Careers Keep Trying for a Baby with Success
“Come and see what our God has done, what awesome miracles he performs for people.” Psalm 66:5.
This scripture was my devotional’s verse of the day on April 24, 2015 when my husband Josh and I finally became pregnant through IVF. It is a scripture that I pray gives hope to those reading this who struggle in their own journey through infertility.
My husband Josh and I got married at the age of 21. Having kids was always something that we talked about and knew we wanted, but felt as though we had plenty of time to start a family. We were young, and both focused on establishing our careers. Josh was in the process of starting a business and I was finishing college to become a teacher. After a few years, we began building a house and finally started trying for a baby. It felt like everything was going according to plan, but little did we know our journey was just beginning.
After about a year and a half of trying, we realized that something was wrong and I consulted with my OB/Gyn. She conducted a few tests, found the problem was male factor infertility, and suggested that we consider fertility treatments. Neither one of us were quite ready for very invasive interventions so we did two IUIs in her office without any cycle monitoring or medication. Neither were successful. After this, fear began to set in, the fear of being childless. We were now approaching our 30s and had so many regrets for waiting so long to start a family. We felt like we were running out of time, and the thought of never having a child of our own was heart wrenching.
After five rounds of insemination, our first attempt at IVF was a success.
We finally decided to bite the bullet and see a specialist. Thankfully, by the grace of God, we were led to Dr. Storment and his staff. They were all so caring, positive, and supportive. They gave us hope again that we would be parents. We went through three unsuccessful IUIs, and with each disappointment we began to feel like giving up. But Dr. Storment was always optimistic, reassuring, and encouraging. He gave us the courage to keep trying. We finally decided to try IVF, and were blessed that our first attempt was a success! Our beautiful miracle, Gabrielle Elise, was born on January 6, 2016!
Words cannot express our gratitude to Dr. Storment and his staff. Thank you for being an answer to our prayers and allowing us to make our dreams come true. We are blessed beyond words for your compassion and guidance throughout our journey into parenthood. Our lives are changed forever, our family is complete, and our hearts are full thanks to you.
